General Questions

Who is Kansas College Storage

We are a locally owned company servicing the Northeast Kansas college community.  We have experienced the cross country move to college and back (more than once), as well as the move to college a few hours away (again, more than once).  We knew that there had to be a better way, and we are excited to help parents and students make this journey a lot easier!  

What service(s) does Kansas College Storage provide?

Kansas College Storage provides boxes, tape and bubble wrap.  We pick up your belongings (curbside or in-room), take them to our clean, secure, climate controlled facility to store for break, and then when you are ready to move back in we deliver everything back to you.  

How does our service(s) work?

Step One:  Make your reservation online.  If your moving dates change make sure to adjust your reservation.

Step Two:  We deliver packing materials about a week before your move out date.

Step Three:  On your move-out day, we ask that you be outside at the curb of your residence 10 minutes prior to your pick up time with your properly packed belongings (See Instructions for Properly Packing HERE).  You can also opt for our in-room pick up service for $25.  We inventory your items, load them and send you an electronic receipt.  We accept cash, credit cards and PayPal.

Step Four:  You enjoy your break knowing your things are safe.  Your parents enjoy that your stuff isn’t sitting in the foyer!

Step Five:  On your move-in date and time, we deliver everything back to you, review your item list and you’re ready to unpack and start the semester. 


Packing & Supply Questions

Do my items need to be boxed or packaged for storage?

We require that all items are properly pack (See Packing Instructions HERE) with the exception of irregular items (i.e. an ironing board).  Items that cannot be boxed (such as furniture, do not need to packed).  Properly boxed items are less prone to damage during moving.  If you have any questions, please contact us.  

Please note that items not properly boxed will incur additional fees.


Are packing materials provided?

We provide all packing materials (boxes, bubble wrap, tape and printable labels) based on your reservation and yes, the cost is included* in the storage fees.

How do I get the packing materials?

We will schedule the delivery of the requested packing materials to the pick-up location about one week prior to the scheduled pick-up. You must be present to take delivery of these materials. 

Can I get more packing materials if needed?

Yes. Just let us know before your pick-up date and we will deliver more materials to you.

May I use my own packing materials?

Yes! However, they must be in good condition and sturdy enough to contain your belongings and be secure during moving.

Storage Questions

Where are my things stored?

Kansas College Storage owns a secure warehouse that is climate and access controlled. We keep it's exact location private for further security. Our personnel are onsite every day to assure the security of the building is maintained.

Are my items insured while in storage?

Yes.  We maintain insurance coverage for items that may become damaged due to elements beyond our control.  We do restrict the storage of high-value items.  If you have an item that is irreplaceable or a family heirloom, we ask that you not place it in storage with us.  Most homeowner’s insurance policies typically cover your belongings away from home.  We encourage you to check with your or your parent’s insurance agent for coverage.

May I store electronic equipment?

Yes, just be sure to properly pack them and mark the box FRAGILE!  The most common error made in packing electronics is failing to properly protect the contents within the packing container.  When this happens, shocks received on the outside of the carton can pass through to the electronics, causing damage.  You should consider the following suggestions when packing your electronics for storage:

  • Cushion the top and bottom of the box with towels or bubble wrap and pack everything inside securely so it doesn’t move, and fill in any void spaces with bubble wrap or other packing materials.
  • Wrap large items in bubble wrap. If it has a screen, protect it with a towel and another layer of bubble wrap. Place cardboard around the item. Cover everything with plastic sheeting and/or plastic wrap.
  • Never use newspaper to pack screens. Newsprint can discolor and transfer onto the screen and newspaper can easily scratch screens.

May I store furniture?

Yes. You may store your furniture and other miscellaneous items including microwaves, refrigerators, bikes, trunks, rugs, bookshelves, futons, filing cabinets, and more. If you don't find your item listed, note it in the comment box when you submit your form and we will provide a price quote when we contact you to confirm your reservation.

May I Store Everything?

We will not accept food, liquids (cleaning products, personal care items, laundry detergent etc.), plants, valuable items such as jewelry, fireworks or any type of explosives, drugs or drug paraphernalia or any hazardous materials.

Do you offer extended storage?

Yes.  Our pricing is calculated by 3 semesters – spring, summer and fall.  If you stored with us during the summer and need to add the fall semester it will be the same rate as your summer rate.  

May I access my possessions while in storage?

In order to ensure the security of our customers’ possessions, we do not allow any of our clients on the premises.  If you need your items prior to your delivery date, please contact us, and we can arrange to deliver them to you.  Additional charges will apply.  

Pickup and Delivery Questions

Is there a pickup and delivery fee?

We have a schedule of free curbside pick-up and delivery days for the summer semester.  If you need days outside of the designated free days there is a fee.  The free dates typically cover the student moving calendar set by the schools.

Do I need to be there when you pickup and drop off my belongings?

No.  You can have someone else be there when we pick up or deliver your belonging.  You will need to contact us ahead of time and let us know that person’s name and contact information prior to delivery.  If you need to change your pick up/delivery time you may reschedule your appointment without charge 24 hours before the allocated time.  There is a fee for any changes made within 24 hours of your pickup/delivery.

Do you service off-campus living?

Yes. We offer the same service for off-campus living.  

What if I don't know where I will be living next semester?

When you have your new living arrangements made, make your move-in (delivery) reservation.

What happens if I change schools or do not come back?

We can ship your belongings to you.  We will get an estimate of what it will cost to ship your items plus our labor and any material cost.  Once your items are shipped you will receive a tracking number.

Pricing & Payment Questions

How much does storage cost?

Kansas College Storage is a pay by the item not a pay by the storage space.  There are no monthly charges, no administrative fees, and no contracts.  You pay by the semester (spring, summer or fall).  Our prices are listed on our rates page.  

Will you store items that are not listed on the rate sheet?

Yes.  If you have something that isn’t listed contact us for a quote.  

How and when do I pay for service?

Payment is due at pick-up.  We accept cash, credit cards and PayPal.  You will be billed if additional fees are incurred due to overweight or over-sized items. 

Is there a fee if I need to cancel my reservation?

There is no fee if you cancel 7 days prior to your moving date.  If you cancel after you have received your packing materials you will be charged a $30 fee plus the retail price for all packing materials delivered.  Contact us for more details.

Do you offer discounts?

Yes!  We have brand ambassadors on campus that will be happy to give you a referral code to save money.  Follow us on social media to get more information.

Fundraising and Brand Ambassadors

How do I become a Brand Ambassador?

Send us an email telling us about yourself!  What school do you attend, what clubs/organizations do you belong to, what year are you, where do you live, what is your major etc.  We are always on the hunt for a great Brand Ambassador!  Don’t forget to tell us about your social media accounts too.
